Headstart@Stillmotion Kennels™: Starting life right

Introduction to Birds, Water 201, Loud Noises 101, and Working With You

Many puppies receive little or no training in some of the most important weeks of their development - seven weeks to six months. At Stillmotion Kennels™, we believe there are a number of activities and experiences during this period that can help your puppy develop to his or her fullest potential. Several of these are described below, including links to excellent sites offered by two non-profit organizations, the Denver Dumb Friends League and the Oakland SPCA.

People have many misconceptions about the needs of puppies. Puppies will feel more secure, and develop into more competent adults if you take the time to learn what makes them tick. It will help if you can begin to try to see the world from the point of view of a dog. You might start by going to this page from the Denver Dumb Friends League on the developmental stages of a puppy's early life. Bookmark the Stillmotion Kennels™ web page so you can easily return to us for the next steps in puppy headstart that you can begin on your own.

Crate training. This may be the single choice you make to most enhance your relationship with your puppy, and give him the security and structure he needs when he first comes to live with you. The Denver Dumb Friends League and the Oakland SPCA offer excellent detailed rationales and instructions for basic crate training. At Stillmotion Kennels™, we crate train all our puppies, and encourage our clients to do the same. It is very difficult to raise a pleasant companion, a happy dog, or a competitve field trail candidate without taking this important first step.
